Role Title: Senior Field Service Technician

Role Type: Contractor

Location: Remote

micro1 is engaging Senior Field Service Technicians to contribute expertise on a customer’s technical project. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters.

Scope of Work

  1. Review and interpret complex electrical schematics, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagrams to assess equipment function and fault pathways.
  2. Diagnose faults and performance issues in industrial, HVAC, elevator, heavy equipment, marine, rail, utility, or telecom systems using technical documentation.
  3. Analyze PLC logic and industrial controls to identify root causes of operational issues and recommend evidence-based solutions.
  4. Document clear, detailed written reports of troubleshooting approaches, findings, and corrective actions for use in AI model training.
  5. Evaluate compliance with relevant US codes (NFPA 70/79, ASME A17.1, OSHA) and highlight code-specific requirements based on real project scenarios.
  6. Communicate technical concepts and diagnostic reasoning effectively in written and verbal form for diverse audiences.
  7. Provide expert commentary on practical maintenance, service, and repair strategies based on extensive field experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. 8+ years of hands-on troubleshooting experience in industrial, HVAC, elevator, hydraulic, heavy vehicle, marine, rail, utility, or telecom equipment.
  2. Advanced proficiency reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, hydraulic and pneumatic layouts.
  3. Deep familiarity with PLC programming, industrial controls, and fault-finding processes.
  4. Strong working knowledge of US safety and operational codes (NFPA 70/79, ASME A17.1, OSHA).
  5. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex diagnostics into clear documentation.
  6. Demonstrated capacity to analyze technical information and craft expert-level insights.
  7. Previous experience authoring technical service reports or instructions is a plus.

Before you apply

  • Confirm async-friendly culture vs daily standup-heavy expectations
  • Ask about on-call rotation and incident expectations
  • Check the tech stack matches what you actually want to use day-to-day
