Location: This is a fully remote, U.S.-based opportunity for candidates working in Eastern, Central, or Mountain Time. Candidates located in Pacific Time are not being considered.

Note: Candidates must have 2+ years of relevant patent attorney experience, a bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, a JD from an accredited law school, active USPTO registration, and admission to at least one U.S. state bar.

Job Description

  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications involving chemical and related technologies.
  • Work directly with inventors, scientists, technical leaders, and corporate counsel to understand complex innovations.
  • Develop thoughtful patent strategies that align intellectual property protection with clients' commercial objectives.
  • Prepare patent specifications, claims, amendments, responses, and related prosecution documents.
  • Manage patent matters efficiently while maintaining high standards for accuracy, responsiveness, and turnaround time.
  • Analyze prior art and technical information to identify patentability considerations and strategic opportunities.
  • Support IP portfolio management, freedom-to-operate analysis, patent landscape projects, and other strategic patent matters.
  • Communicate complex chemical and legal concepts clearly to clients and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with a distributed team of attorneys and IP professionals in a fully virtual environment.
  • Participate in client development opportunities with firm support and mentoring.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of directly relevant patent attorney experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO.
  • Active admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications involving chemical technologies.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, communication, and client-service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fully remote environment.
  • Secure, professional, disruption-free home workspace.
  • Must be U.S.-based and able to work primarily within Eastern, Central, or Mountain Time.
